Opera Festival Scotland
Dundee’s newest arts festival, Opera Festival Scotland is arriving in Dundee with an array of incredible performances, masterclasses and workshops from Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th September. The Festival is a celebration of music and community spirit with many community singers getting involved in the inaugural event. Here’s the musical schedule for the weekend.
Verdi’s Aida – In Concert
Friday 23rd September, Caird Hall, 7.30pm
After more than 20 years of waiting, this great opera finally makes a return to Dundee!
With an exciting line-up of incredible soloists, as well as talented members from the community, this collaborative performance is ideal both for those looking to try opera for the first time, and those who already love opera!
Performance will also feature singers from the National Youth Choir of Scotland Dundee chorus.

Young Artists Singing Competition – with Royal Scottish National Orchestra
Sunday 25th September, Caird Hall, 3pm
Accompanied by a Dundee-favourite, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, four young singers will compete in front of audience and judging panel in a bid to win several career-boosting prizes.
This concert is ideal for those looking for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon activity. The collection of songs performed make this concert an easy and enjoyable way to introduce yourself to opera, or hear the many favourites you may already know and enjoy.

Masterclass with Janis Kelly – International Soprano
Sunday 25th September, Dundee High School, 11-12.30pm
Janis Kelly – fellow Scot, international soprano and Chair of Vocal performance at the Royal College of Music in London – will come to Dundee to provide a public masterclass with two young singers. With such a successful career singing and teaching in venues across the world, we are thrilled to welcome Janis to Dundee to share her knowledge. There will be an opportunity to ask Janis some questions also.

Non-professional Singing Competition
Saturday 24th September, Marryat Hall, 1-2pm
Dedicated to supporting both amateur as well as professional musicians, Opera Festival Scotland welcomes four talented non-professional singers to Dundee for this new competition. The four finalists to have the opportunity to show off their talents and skills. This event makes for a refreshing lunchtime activity while in the city centre!

In Conversation with Julia Lagahuzere
Friday 23rd September, Dundee University, 3-4.30pm
Dundee University welcomes international organisation Opera for Peace and their General Director Julia Lagahuzere for a special conversation on young artist development.
With an opportunity to receive expressive arts career advice, as well as a chance to network, this event is free and ideal for those looking to work in the performing arts.
