Yoga By Bike
Embark on a Journey with Detour Edinburgh
Join us for an invigorating bike ride and yoga session in East Lothian on May 4th with Detour! Our gatherings are designed to unite individuals in physical activity, mindfulness, and a deep connection with nature.
We’ll gather at PATH (Portobello Active Travel Hub, located on Porty Promenade at the end of Pipe Lane) at 9am. From there, we’ll cycle approximately 15 miles to Longniddry, taking regular breaks to socialize, rehydrate, and soak in the beautiful surroundings. The path primarily consists of bike trails, gravel and forest tracks, and serene roads, making it accessible for most bicycles.
By around 11am, we’ll reach Fern Bothy, where you’ll be treated to refreshments and warm beverages. Following this, Jorja will guide us through a 1-hour Vinyasa Yoga session suitable for all skill levels. The class will start with grounding exercises, breath control, and gentle movements, progressing into more energetic sequences before easing into soothing poses and a relaxing savasana. After the session, you can opt to return to Edinburgh by train from Longniddry or cycle back with the group. (Please ensure you arrange your own train ticket and bike reservation if choosing the train option.)
What to Pack:
– A helmet
– A bike lock
– Warm clothing and rainproof gear (just in case!)
– A water bottle
– Plenty of snacks (or a packed lunch)
Yoga mats and props will be available at the venue. Be sure to wear comfortable attire for movement. Please note that the venue is only accessible via stairs and, regrettably, is not wheelchair-friendly. If you have specific dietary needs, kindly inform us ahead of time.
If you’d like to join but don’t have a bike, consider renting one from Porty Community Energy’s bike library, conveniently located at our starting point. Additionally, if tickets remain unsold two days prior to the event, yoga-only spots will be available for £12.
The event will be facilitated by Jorja Follina, a Dance Artist and Movement Instructor who earned her 200-hour Astanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher certification at Sampoorna Yoga in India. Jorja is also trained through Cycling Scotland’s Ride Leader program and brings a decade of experience teaching various movement practices.
