**Baichuan Hui (Piano)**
Baichuan Hui is a highly skilled and dynamic pianist, excelling in both solo and ensemble settings. Praised as ‘a top-tier musician with refined sensibilities’ by Aaron Shorr, and noted for her ‘exceptional skill, passionate delivery, and charisma’ by Fali Pavri, her performances are often described as conveying ‘raw emotional intensity, embodying hope, joy, fear, bewilderment, and sorrow’ (Snack Magazine). Baichuan has graced stages in cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Beijing, Xuzhou, Shijiazhuang, and Ningxia, performing at notable locations like the Royal Concert Hall, House for an Art Lover, the Scottish Music Centre, Ningxia Theatre, and Steinway Hall in Beijing. She has also taken part in the Hidden Door Festival in Edinburgh and contributed to ‘Music for First Contact,’ a groundbreaking electronic opera album with the Scottish group Post Coal Prom Queen. Among her accolades are second place at the Agustin Aponte International Music Competition, first place at the 7th Shenzhen Piano Open Competition, and first place for the Jock Holden Memorial Mozart Prize. Baichuan has enriched her craft through international festivals and masterclasses with luminaries like Malcolm Martineau, Steven Osborne, Roy Howat, and Cristina Ortiz.
Starting piano lessons at age four, Baichuan earned a spot at the China Conservatory Affiliated High School at 12, under Professor Xiaoxue Hu. In 2013, she received a full ABRSM scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) with Professor Aaron Shorr. She later completed a Master’s degree and, in 2021, an Artist Diploma at RCS under Professors Aaron Shorr and Fali Pavri, supported by a full RCS Trust scholarship. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Performing Arts (D.Perf.) through a joint program with RCS and the University of St Andrews, researching Jewish composers whose works were stifled
