The Camera Portobello Photography School
Unlock the secrets of your DSLR camera during an immersive one-day outdoor workshop, guided by the talented photographer and seasoned instructor, Alicia Bruce. Kick off the day with a warm beverage provided by The Little Green Van. Throughout the session, you’ll gain skills to enhance the quality of your images and transition from automatic to manual settings. Topics covered include:

Our primary location will be the scenic Portobello Promenade, along with its beach and nearby areas (location may vary based on social distancing guidelines). All attendees will receive a detailed workshop itinerary and introductory materials to prepare for the day.
**About the Instructor**
Alicia Bruce brings two decades of photography expertise and over a decade of teaching experience, backed by a formal teaching qualification. She currently serves as a Teaching Fellow in Fine Art and Photography at the Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh. Previously, she led well-received photography workshops at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow for over ten years.
Alicia’s work has been showcased and published globally, earning her numerous accolades, such as the Royal Scottish Academy Morton Award. Her photography is featured in prestigious collections, including the National Galleries of Scotland and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. Recent projects include Zero Tolerance’s ‘Violence Unseen’, ‘209 Women’ for the UK Parliament, and ‘Our World Heritage’ for Edinburgh World Heritage. Portobello, Edinburgh’s charming coastal suburb, boasts a vibrant community, a stunning beach, a lively promenade, and ever-shifting sea and sky views. It’s just a 20-minute bus ride from the city center.
**Who Should Attend?**
This workshop is ideal for complete novices, passionate hobbyists, and seasoned photographers transitioning from film to digital formats.
**What to Bring?**
Participants are required to bring a DSLR or another camera (such as mirrorless or compact) with manual settings, fully charged batteries, and an empty memory card. Also, bring a notebook and pen. A tripod is optional but welcome.
Pack your own lunch and/or snacks. A 45-minute lunch break (1:00 pm – 1:45 pm) is scheduled, allowing participants to enjoy meals purchased from nearby eateries.
