Tay Bridge DisasterMcGonagall Captain Scott and other tales
Highlighting the Tay Bridge Disaster, a significant part of our guided walk and discussion will focus on the tragic events of that unforgettable day. Along the way, you’ll come across notorious scoundrels, cherished (though terrible) poets, and genuine heroes. Another key highlight of the tour is the story of Captain Scott’s RRS Discovery, which set sail from Dundee in 1901. We’ll explore its remarkable journey to Antarctica with Scott, its return, and its current resting place at Discovery Point.
Your guide, a dedicated volunteer on the RRS Discovery for several years, frequently confirms to curious visitors that this is indeed the authentic ship! The tour covers a flat path of approximately 3/4 of a mile (1208 meters) in length. Regardless of the weather, the tours will proceed as planned, so please dress appropriately for the conditions—our location by the Tay estuary, near the North Sea, can be breezy. Interestingly, Dundee holds the title of Scotland’s sunniest city. Believe it or not!
Kindly be aware that the cost of your tour ticket does not include admission to any of the sites we will see or talk about during the tour. We encourage you to explore these attractions on your own and are happy to provide recommendations. Please note that tour tickets are available exclusively online, and unfortunately, refunds are not offered after purchase.
THE TOUR WILL ADHERE TO THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT’S COVID GUIDELINES, WHICH MAY BE UPDATED AS NECESSARY.
This is a Paid Event.
