TALKS AT THE LANE Carles Oliver Barcel
This occasion heralds the launch of a fresh season dedicated to process—the dynamic, cyclical essence of creativity within architecture, design, and craftsmanship. As a component of a broader national dialogue, this gathering will delve into the responsible utilization of stone and the potential economic, social, commercial, and cultural impacts that a revived focus on local stone might bring to Scotland.
Carles Oliver Barceló, an architect trained at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) and a master stonemason by professional demand, brings a wealth of expertise. Holding a degree from ETSAB and having pursued studies at UCLA, TU Delft, and ETSAM, he has been a key figure at the Balearic Social Housing Institute (IBAVI) since 2009. There, he has spearheaded innovative sustainable housing initiatives. His acclaimed project, Life Reusing Posidonia in Formentera, highlights climate-sensitive design, inventive use of materials, and environmental adaptability. With a diverse body of work encompassing social housing, eco-friendly communities, and repurposing projects, his contributions have been extensively showcased and published, influencing discussions on sustainable architectural practices.
This event is proudly backed by Hutton Stone, Historic Environment Scotland, and the Stone Federation GB.
