Summer Seabird ID Beginners

Come along with our Conservation Officers for an indoor workshop focused on recognizing the magnificent seabirds that inhabit Scotland’s coastal areas during the summer months. We’ll highlight species commonly observed in the vicinity of North Berwick. Whether you’re a newcomer to the region, just starting out with birdwatching, or simply eager to discuss the coastal birds you occasionally spot, all are invited to engage, exchange insights, and enjoy a relaxed learning experience.

If the weather permits, we might conclude the session with a brief outdoor stroll along the shoreline to observe any birds in the area. This event is designed for adults aged 18 and over. Your ticket purchase is appreciated and directly supports our educational and conservation initiatives.

**Optional Catamaran Boat Trip for Seabirds**
On the same day, in the afternoon, there is an opportunity to join a Seabird Catamaran Boat Trip. This requires a separate booking and is not covered by the event ticket price. To reserve your spot, click HERE, dial 01620 890 202, or visit our Boat Office in person. If the trip appears fully booked online, please contact the Boat Office as we reserve spots for event attendees until 24 hours prior to the trip. Booking after this deadline does not guarantee a place. Note that reservations are exclusive to the Seabird Catamaran Boat Trip scheduled on the same day as this event.

**Location and Itinerary**
The session will be held in our Learning Hub, a classroom connected to the SSC office building, located across from the visitor centre. Following an indoor presentation, weather and time permitting, we’ll take a short outdoor excursion to Milsey Bay beach for a round trip. The route and focus of the walk may adapt based on sightings and participants’ interests, covering various species and habitats.

**What We Provide**
For the outdoor portion, we’ll supply binoculars, identification guides, and hand sanitizer if required.

**What to Bring**
Please wear sturdy footwear, dress for the outdoor weather while ensuring comfort for an hour indoors, and bring a drink, any necessary medications, a mobile phone, and sun protection if the weather is favorable.

**Accessibility Information**
The indoor portion of the event lasts 60-90 minutes and the classroom is accessible for wheelchair users. Kindly inform us in advance to arrange seating accordingly. The outdoor walk includes mild inclines, uneven sandy terrain, rocky patches, and potentially slippery areas. We strive to adapt the pace and path for everyone’s comfort,
