Sketching Nature and Architecture at Lauriston Castle

Capture the enchanting scenery of Lauriston Castle using ink and watercolors. This breathtaking site blends natural beauty with architectural charm and offers spectacular views across the Forth to Fife. During this 3-hour sketching excursion, Mark, widely recognized as EdinburghSketcher, will lead you through the castle’s grounds, highlighting specific elements to demonstrate the skills he has honed over ten years of sketching throughout the city.

Each session will cover techniques such as mark-making, perspective, depth, and composition. You’ll start with quick 5-minute exercises to loosen up your hand and focus on layout, progressing to more intricate 30-minute sketches of the landscape. Mark’s sketching outings cater to everyone, from novices to seasoned artists eager to explore his distinctive rapid-sketching approach or to refine their skills with ink and watercolor.

A frame for your completed artwork and all necessary supplies for the day are provided. As this is an outdoor walking and sketching experience, be sure to dress according to the unpredictable Scottish climate! If you have any inquiries, feel free to reach out to Mark at [email protected]. All materials are covered in the cost. Be prepared for varying weather conditions; check the forecast and dress suitably for this outdoor activity. While I’ll continue in light rain, in case of severe weather, we can move indoors, using beach objects and local photographs for the workshop. The minimum age for participation is 8, and those aged 8-15 must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket.

This is a paid event.
