Propagation Workshop with Lauriston Farm Growers
**Mastering the Art of Growing from Seed**
Starting plants from seed is a deeply fulfilling experience, with countless advantages that are hard to fully capture here. These range from cutting costs and minimizing plastic waste to taking back control of our local food systems as a community. All it requires is a little expertise, and we’re excited to provide you with our best advice and essential techniques.
In this session led by our Market Garden team, we’ll dive into:
– **Seed Starting**: Choosing the right seeds, testing for germination, understanding varieties, and timing your sowing.
– **Soil Blocking**: Learning how to create and utilize soil blocks effectively.
– **Seedling Care**: Nurturing your young plants for optimal growth.
– **Transplanting**: Best practices for moving seedlings to their final growing spot.
**Who Should Attend?**
This session is designed for home gardeners, allotment enthusiasts, and those dreaming of becoming growers. The content is tailored for adults and engaged teens, rather than younger children.
**Location and Accessibility Information**
This intimate group workshop will take place in the Market Garden Pack Shed and polytunnels.
Please wear clothing suitable for outdoor conditions, though we’ll be under cover for most of the time.
Access to the Pack Shed is via a level, rough stone path, with a ramp leading to the elevated section. The polytunnels are a short walk across uneven, grassy terrain that may be damp in areas. All-terrain wheelchairs or mobility scooters should generally be able to navigate the space. Seating will be provided. For any accessibility concerns or needs, please contact us at [email protected].
**Ticket Information**
Tickets are offered on a sliding scale, including ‘solidarity’ options (details below):
