Outsiders in Fantasy Edinburgh West End

Come along on Wednesday, 23rd April, to hear Eliza Chan, Annabel Campbell, and Genoveva Dimova in conversation with Ann Landmann, the Festival Director of Cymera: Scotland’s Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Writing. They’ll be discussing their captivating new releases, focusing on how their characters defy societal norms and the extraordinary measures they take to assert their independence.

Eliza Chan, a Scottish author of Chinese descent, draws inspiration from East Asian mythology and British folklore, often reimagining the trope of the dragon lady—ideally combining all these elements in her storytelling. Her fiction has appeared in publications such as The Dark, Podcastle, Fantasy Magazine, and The Best of British Fantasy, while her non-fiction pieces have been featured on Tor.com. Based in Northern England with her partner and young child, Eliza’s latest novel is titled *Tideborn*.

Annabel Campbell crafts fantasy tales filled with strong female leads and chaotic wizards, firmly believing that dragons make everything better. She resides in a small Scottish village, surrounded mostly by sheep. With a PhD in cardiovascular science, Annabel balances her creative writing with a career as a Medical Writer. Her other passions include red wine, gaming, and sharing countless photos of her dog. Her first novel, *The Outcast Mage*, marks her debut in the literary world.

Genoveva Dimova, a fantasy writer and archaeologist, hails from Bulgaria and now calls Scotland home, where she lives with her partner and a thriving collection of houseplants. Her stories often reflect her personal experiences, incorporating Balkan folklore, themes of immigration, and characters whose stubbornness leads them into chaotic situations. When not writing, she enjoys wandering through ancient ruins, hiking up historic hills, and listening to classic rock music. Her most recent work is *Monstrous Nights*.
