Martin MacIntyre A Summer Like No Other

We are excited to host Martin MacIntyre at our store on Friday, May 16th at 7:30pm to mark the release of his groundbreaking work, *A Summer Like No Other*, originally written in Gaelic and now available in English for the first time. This book is a treasure for those with a deep appreciation for Gaelic culture, yet its universal themes of emotional storytelling and vividly crafted characters resonate with readers everywhere, regardless of background. Travel back to the summer of 1978, where young Colin Quinn spends time on South Uist with his captivating uncle, Ruairidh Gillies. As the world watches Scotland’s ambitious campaign in the Argentina World Cup, Colin and Ruairidh forge their own path, strengthening their connection while facing life’s intricate challenges. The novel paints a striking picture of the Outer Hebrides, showcasing the untamed beauty of the islands and the powerful, ever-changing forces of nature. Readers will be immersed in the characters’ tender moments of happiness and their deep struggles, all framed by the breathtaking landscapes of South Uist.

Martin MacIntyre, born in 1965 to a father from South Uist and a mother from Glasgow, grew up in Lenzie. He earned a medical degree from the University of Aberdeen in 1988 and later pursued studies in Business and Gaidhealtachd Studies at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Balancing his career in medicine with his passion for writing and storytelling, Martin has previously published *Ath-Aithne (Re-acquaintance)*, a collection of short stories that earned the Saltire Society First Book Award in 2003, as well as *Gymnippers Dicidian (Wednesday Gymnippers)*.

Doors open at 7pm, with the event beginning at 7:30pm; we recommend arriving early to secure a favorable seat.
