CWGC War Grave Week 2025 Edinburgh Eastern Cemetery
Come along for a complimentary guided walk through Edinburgh Eastern Cemetery. While our tours are offered at no cost to visitors, we encourage those who wish to contribute to make a donation to our associated charity, The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF), via their website at https://foundation.cwgc.org/donate/. We will gather at the Cross of Sacrifice, located close to the cemetery’s main gate. This burial ground holds the remains of soldiers from both World Wars, as well as some non-military graves in Section B. Near the entrance stands a War Cross, alongside a memorial wall inscribed with the names of individuals from the 1914-1918 conflict whose graves lack headstones. Currently, the site honors almost 90 casualties from the First World War and more than 60 from the Second World War, with a few remaining unidentified. Please note that parking is limited, there are no restrooms or amenities, and the terrain is flat. Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) strives to connect diverse communities with the mission of the CWGC by sharing compelling narratives through educational initiatives and community engagement. The CWGF operates as an independent charity, registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982). Please note that this event is not free and requires payment.
