Creative Making Bookplates
This workshop offers an introduction to basic relief printmaking techniques for creating a personalized label to place on the inner cover of a book. Historically, bookplates were crafted to ensure the return of lost books and were typically produced using woodcuts or copper engravings. These designs often captured elements of the owner’s personality and reflected the artistic trends of their time.
During the session, we will start by examining bookplates from the library’s own collection, using them as inspiration to create your own modern design. We will utilize rubber stamping to produce the prints, and each attendee will take home a set of their own printed labels. The workshop will be guided by book artist and printmaker Susie Wilson.
