An Evening with Kate Foster Edinburgh West End

Come along on Wednesday, May 28th at 7pm, as we are excited to host the acclaimed bestselling author Kate Foster at our store to mark the release of her captivating new book, The Mourning Necklace. This riveting novel draws inspiration from the notorious true story of Maggie Dickson, the woman who miraculously lived through her own hanging.

They declared I’d be executed for my crime, and so I was… I bear the scar of the noose like a somber pendant.
In 1724, within a small tavern on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Maggie Dickson’s relatives drown their grief, lamenting her passing while feeling a sense of relief at her departure. Disgrace lingers over them. Executed for the killing of her infant, onlookers turn away from the sight of her modest coffin on a shaky cart.

Yet, as her family hopes for her spirit’s tranquility, a silhouette emerges at the entrance.
It’s Maggie. She has survived.
Battered and bewildered, Maggie has no patience for her family’s inquiries. Her sole concern is a pressing question: will they attempt to execute her again?
