An Evening in Celebration of William Topaz McGonagall

Become a part of the International Ghost Society for a special night honoring the poet William Topaz McGonagall, often regarded as the most dreadful poet in history. McGonagall is notorious (or celebrated in some circles) for crafting some of the most atrocious verses ever written, such as his 1880 elegy for the Tay Bridge Disaster:
“Oh! Unfortunate bridge of the shimmering Tay,
I must now end my verse
By boldly declaring to the world without any fear,
That your central supports would not have collapsed,
As many wise individuals agree,
If only they had been reinforced with buttresses on either side,
A fact many knowledgeable people acknowledge,
For the sturdier our structures are made,
The safer we are from deadly fates.”
Believe it or not, this is far from his most terrible work.

We will host professional recitations of his most recognized pieces and offer a brief talk on his life and numerous achievements. Despite possessing no apparent skill in poetry, McGonagall led a vibrant and fascinating artistic existence, marked by various feats, some more notable than others.
“Dear residents of fair Dundee,
Are you aware of the injustice the officials have dealt me?
Do not gawk or cause a commotion
When I reveal they have barred me from performing at the Royal Circus…”

Additionally, we will reveal the winners of our Worst Poetry Contest and present a unique, inverted ode to the haggis. The evening will conclude with a complimentary beverage and a (digital) bagpiper to bid you farewell as you depart (or linger for another drink if you wish)!
Please note, this is a ticketed event.
