Kick off 2025 with a cultural deep dive into the world of art and identity at the Tower Foyer Gallery in Dundee! The University of Dundee Museums has unveiled their latest exhibition, Reframing the Muse, a thought-provoking exploration of how the female body has been portrayed, interpreted, and reimagined throughout art history.
The exhibition delves into the evolving role of the female form in art, unpacking its use to tell stories of desire, identity, and power. It’s a journey through time and cultures, showcasing how women have often been both celebrated and constrained—seen as symbols of beauty, morality, or rebellion.
With a sharp focus on performance, identity, and cultural appropriation, Reframing the Muse challenges traditional narratives while spotlighting moments where women have reclaimed their bodies as tools for self-representation and defiance. Whether you’re an art lover, history buff, or curious mind, this exhibition offers a deeply reflective experience.
Curated by Delaney Brown, an art history student from the University of St Andrews, the collection is as insightful as it is beautiful. Highlights include stunning pieces like Portrait of a Lady (Thomas Hudson, c.1740s) and Spirit of the Future (Rebecca Crompton, 1937).
