Remeber Remeber the 25th Of November 😉
As the winter chill sets in, the city of Dundee prepares to wrap itself in a cloak of festive lights and joyous celebrations. The season’s merriment begins on November 25th with the much-anticipated Dundee Hooley, a vibrant event that embodies the spirit of St Andrew’s Day and Scotland’s renowned hospitality.
The Dundee Hooley, now in its glorious second year, promises an evening of enchantment starting at 3 pm in the City Square. The streets will come alive with a torch-lit procession, proudly led by the Lord Provost and accompanied by community groups. Spectacular performances by Thingumajig Theatre and Urban Moves will dazzle onlookers, while PyroCeltica’s Celtic Fire theatre will illuminate the night with their fiery artistry.
The festivities will crescendo into a traditional Christmas ceilidh, with live music from Skyrie, inviting everyone to dance the night away until 7.30 pm.
In the lead-up to the Hooley, from November 22nd to 25th, Dundee offers free lantern-making workshops, perfect for families and friends to craft their own beacons of light. Those eager to be torch-carriers in the procession can register from November 1st on the Dundee.com website.
As winter unfolds, Dundee’s custom festive lighting will cast a warm glow over the city, celebrating its rich heritage with delightful references to DC Thomson characters and designs that nod to the city’s UNESCO status. The designer trees and living Christmas displays are set to return, creating a picturesque backdrop for holiday photos and memories.
From November 30th, City Square will be the heart of Dundee’s Christmas festivities, open Thursday through Sunday until December 23rd at 1 pm. The Nordic Ti-pi will offer free activities, including meetings with Santa, the Dundee Christmas Card, and illuminated wishing fountains. Families can enjoy curling, meet Pingoo and his reindeer friends, and even send a letter to Santa.
Social Bite returns with their LED Christmas Tree of Kindness, inviting visitors to share gifts with the homeless and vulnerable, spreading the true essence of the holiday spirit.
Mark your calendars for December 2nd’s Christmas Special, featuring ice carving, a unicorn dance party, and appearances by Poppy Bubbles and other delightful characters. And on the morning of December 23rd, join Santa, Mrs. Claus, and special guests as they collect letters from Dundee’s children before heading to the North Pole.
This season, let the heart of Dundee be your destination for an unforgettable Christmas experience. Join us as we celebrate the warmth, joy, and community spirit that makes this city a winter wonderland like no other.
