Dundee has always been a city built on people.

From its rich history and proud traditions to the many cultures that now call the city home, Dundee continues to evolve while keeping its strong sense of community firmly intact.

This weekend, that community spirit takes centre stage as the city hosts the first-ever Dundee Get Together, a new festival celebrating cultural diversity, kindness, and the people who make Dundee what it is.

Taking place in City Square on Saturday 13 June, the free event promises an afternoon filled with music, dancing, family activities, and a colourful parade showcasing the incredible variety of communities, organisations, and groups that contribute to life in the city.

A Celebration of Modern Dundee

Running from 3pm until 6pm, Dundee Get Together aims to bring people together through shared experiences, conversation, and plenty of fun.

One of the highlights of the afternoon will be a vibrant community parade featuring more than 700 participants from over 35 organisations.

Setting off from the High School of Dundee at 3.30pm, the parade will make its way along Reform Street before arriving in City Square.

Expect music, colour, costumes, and a fantastic atmosphere as groups from across the city come together to celebrate everything that makes Dundee unique.

Visitors can also look forward to a Chinese dragon, traditional Scottish dancers, pipers, cyclists, and plenty of surprises along the route.

If you’re planning to be in the city centre, finding a spot along Reform Street is likely to be one of the best ways to soak up the atmosphere.

Get Involved and Join the Dancing

The celebration doesn’t stop once the parade reaches City Square.

From 3.45pm, visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a range of interactive dance sessions led by community groups from across Dundee.

Activities include:

  • Scottish ceilidh dancing with the Mad Ferret Band
  • African dance sessions with Hope For Families
  • Indian dance performances with Bharatiya Ashram Dancers
  • Traditional Nigerian-inspired dancing with Nzuko Ndi Igbo Dundee

No previous experience required just a willingness to join in and have a go.

Family-Friendly Fun Throughout the Afternoon

Alongside the performances and dancing, there will be plenty of activities designed to keep younger visitors entertained.

Families can take part in:

🎨 We Are Dundee Canvas helping create a colourful city skyline made from fingerprints contributed by local residents.

💬 Kindness in Dundee Looks Like sharing messages and thoughts about what kindness means in the city.

🪨 Dundee Rocks decorating rocks with colourful designs.

🎈 Celebrate Play Festival creative play activities hosted by ScrapAntics and Dundee Play Forum.

🏀 Active Dundee test your aim with netball hoop challenges.

🎲 Games Garden giant games including Connect Four and Jenga.

The event is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for people of all ages.

Food, Friendship and Community Spirit

Organisers are also encouraging people to stay, chat, and connect with others throughout the afternoon.

Free refreshments will be available, offering the perfect opportunity to sit down, meet new people, and enjoy the relaxed festival atmosphere.

In a world that can often feel busy and disconnected, Dundee Get Together is a reminder of the simple value of bringing people together.

A Festival That Reflects Dundee

Dundee has become one of Scotland’s most diverse and welcoming cities, with communities from around the world helping shape its character and identity.

The Dundee Get Together aims to celebrate exactly that.

It’s about recognising differences, finding common ground, and creating opportunities for people to learn from one another.

Most importantly, it’s about having a good time.

So whether you’re a lifelong Dundonian, a student, a newcomer to the city, or simply visiting for the weekend, head along to City Square and be part of what promises to be a colourful new addition to Dundee’s summer events calendar.
