Award-winning documentary maker Louis Theroux is heading to Dundee this May for a rare live appearance at the Caird Hall.

For one night only, audiences will have the chance to hear from one of Britain’s most distinctive storytellers as An Evening with Louis Theroux arrives in the city on Thursday 21 May 2026.

Best known for his quietly fearless interviewing style and documentaries that explore the stranger, tougher and more complicated corners of modern life, Theroux has spent more than three decades meeting people on the extremes and telling stories with curiosity, empathy and sharp intelligence. Now, he’s stepping away from the screen and onto the stage for a live, in-depth conversation that promises plenty of insight, honesty and a few surprises along the way.

Taking place at the Caird Hall at 7.30pm, the event will offer Dundee audiences a behind-the-scenes look at Theroux’s remarkable career. From the interviews that caught him off guard to the environments that tested him most, the evening will reflect on the moments, encounters and turning points that helped shape his work.

Guests can expect stories from the making of some of his most talked-about documentaries, alongside reflections on the craft of storytelling itself. Thoughtful, analytical and often very funny, Theroux’s work has long stood apart for its ability to reveal the human side of even the most difficult subjects and this live event looks set to bring that same quality to the stage.

The Dundee date forms part of the new True Stories live event series, run by True North Advisors, which aims to bring some of the world’s most fascinating storytellers to audiences in person. Theroux will be interviewed by Ryan Crighton, former journalist and now senior partner at True North Advisors.

Speaking about the new series, Crighton said the idea behind True Stories is rooted in the moments that shape remarkable lives the setbacks, risks and turning points behind public success. In Theroux, the series has found a fitting first guest: someone whose entire career has been built on looking beyond surface impressions and uncovering the real story underneath.

The event has also been welcomed by the team at Caird Hall, with programming manager Doug Taylor describing it as an incredible opportunity for people in Dundee to hear one of the country’s most distinctive journalistic voices live in one of Scotland’s great concert halls.

There is already expected to be strong demand for tickets, and it is not hard to see why. Theroux’s documentaries have built a loyal audience over the years not simply because of the subjects he covers, but because of the way he covers them with a calm presence, an eye for detail and a knack for getting people to reveal more than they perhaps intended. Seeing that mind at work live, and hearing him reflect on the stories behind the stories, should make for a genuinely memorable night.
