If you’ve ever spent time in a hospital as a patient, a visitor, or someone just trying not to faint at the sight of a needle you’ll know there’s a very specific kind of humour that lives behind the scenes. Fast, brutal (in the nicest way), and often the only thing keeping folk going on a long shift.

That’s exactly where Georgie Carroll comes from.

A UK-born, Australia-based nurse turned comedian, Georgie spent 20 years on the healthcare frontline before swapping the pen torch for the spotlight and she’s now bringing her brand-new show Nurse Georgie Carroll: Infectious to Dundee’s Whitehall Theatre on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

From operating theatre to sold-out tours

Georgie isn’t a “viral for a week” comedy story. She’s a proper live powerhouse.

Her previous show Sista Flo 2.0 has shifted 75,000+ tickets, sold out her debut Edinburgh Fringe, toured internationally (UK, NZ, AU and beyond), and won Best Comedy Award at Adelaide Fringe. She’s taken the show from operating theatres to some of the biggest stages going including the London Palladium, Sydney Opera House, and the Hammersmith Apollo.

So aye, she’s done the hard yards.

You might already know her from “dolphin, penguin, orca…”

If you’ve seen her online, chances are it’s her wildly relatable clip “3 stages of nursing” the one that basically gave nursing staff worldwide a shared language involving dolphins, penguins, and orcas. It’s the kind of joke that lands because it’s true… and because she’s lived it.

And even if you’ve never set foot on a ward, the way she tells stories makes it feel like you’re right there beside her, trying not to laugh too loud at the nurses’ station.

What’s Infectious about?

Infectious is Georgie back with a fresh hour razor sharp, riotous, and packed with the sort of observations you only get from someone who’s seen humanity at its strangest, funniest, most frantic, and most heartfelt.

It’s stand-up with a big heart and zero fluff. A celebration of the “no nonsense” nurses that sooner or later end up playing a part in all our lives whether that’s delivering good news, bad news, or telling you off for not drinking enough water.

TV, podcasts, books… she’s everywhere (in a good way)

Georgie’s been all over TV in Australia (with specials and regular appearances), and she made a big splash in the UK by reaching the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, winning over audiences and judges — including a tidy endorsement from Simon Cowell:

Really funny… just brilliant.

She also hosts a podcast, because of course she does The Swab now into its third season, with 125,000+ listens and a nomination for Best Comedy Podcast. And she’s a best-selling author too, with Off the Charts (Pan Macmillan), a proper “nursing bible” that was nominated for the Russell Prize for humour writing.

Reviews don’t mess about either

If you like a star rating with your recommendation, she’s absolutely stacked:

  • ★★★★★ “Laughter is the best medicine & you cannot miss your dose!” Lost in Theatre Land (UK)
  • ★★★★★ “Exceptional” Mervyn Stutters Pick of the Fringe (Edinburgh 2023)
  • ★★★★★ “Sublime comedy” Glam Adelaide
  • ★★★★★ “Rollicking, riotous comedy” The Age (Melbourne)
