The Story Behind Maison Dieu Coffee
The Beginning 2020
Maison Dieu Coffee was born out of frustration with the lack of high-quality coffee available in Brechin. Passionate about speciality coffee and inspired by the independent cafés they had visited elsewhere, the founders decided to take matters into their own hands and start their own coffee roasting business.
What began as an idea quickly turned into a full commitment to learning the craft of coffee roasting and café service.
The Grind 2020
Starting a speciality coffee roastery with no previous business experience proved to be a challenge. The founders immersed themselves in the world of coffee, attending roasting courses, barista training sessions, and spending countless hours researching sourcing, brewing techniques, and equipment.
Through dedication and persistence, the team built strong relationships within the speciality coffee community and laid the foundations for what Maison Dieu Coffee would become.
Opening Day 2021
After more than a year of preparation, Maison Dieu Coffee opened the doors to its first café and roastery in Brechin. It marked a milestone not just for the founders but for the town itself — becoming Brechin’s first speciality coffee roaster.
The response from the community was overwhelming, with customers quickly embracing the new café and supporting the brand from day one.
Growing the Brand 2022
As word spread, Maison Dieu Coffee began supplying coffee to other cafés and businesses across the region. Demand for their beans and blends continued to grow, prompting the launch of an online store where customers could purchase freshly roasted coffee, brewing equipment, and merchandise.
The café also began hosting small events and tastings, helping to build a local community around speciality coffee.
A New Chapter 2023
Maison Dieu Coffee reached another milestone with the opening of its second café in Broughty Ferry, bringing speciality coffee to the Dundee area. The expansion introduced the brand to a wider audience and reinforced its reputation as a high-quality independent roaster.
Since launching, the business has served more than 500,000 coffees, and the team continues to grow while maintaining the same commitment to quality and community.
