If you’re after something a bit different in Dundee over the next wee while part culture, part curiosity, part “how have I never done this before?” the University of Dundee has you covered with a new exhibition, two online mini-shows, and a social evening in the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum for LGBT+ History Month.

Here’s what’s happening.

Heroes: celebrating the individuals who shaped our university, city and beyond

Lamb Gallery | runs until Friday 24 April 2026

To mark 50 years of University of Dundee Archive Services, the team has created a special exhibition that digs into the archive collections and shines a light on the people who helped shape the university, the city, and beyond.

What’s especially nice about this one is that it’s not just “look at the old things” (though we all love a good archive). The exhibition features work by artists, creative writers, and designers who’ve been inspired by stories of staff and students found in the collections so it’s very much about how the past can speak to the present (and even nudge the future a bit).

Private View

If you fancy seeing it with archive staff on hand for a chat and a wander, there’s a private view:
Friday 20 February 2026 | 5:00–6:30pm

Curator’s Choice: two online exhibitions (Art UK)

If you like your culture with a side of sofa, this is a great shout.

University curator Matthew Jarron is marking 25 years in the role by putting together two online exhibitions on Art UK:

  • Curator’s Choice – 25 years of acquisitions at the University of Dundee
  • Curator’s Choice – 25 years of exhibitions at the University of Dundee

These are ideal for a lunch-break scroll or a rainy-evening browse and you’ll inevitably end up down a rabbit hole of “wait, Dundee has that?”

Find them: on Art UK (search the titles above).

Queer Zoology Trail at the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum

Friday 27 February 2026 | 5:30–7:00pm

For LGBT+ History Month, the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum is hosting a special social evening with a twist: an illustrated Queer Zoology Trail.

You’ll explore the museum using a map that helps you hunt down animals with non-binary characteristics or surprising gender role reversals in the natural world. It’s fun, it’s genuinely interesting, and it’s a brilliant reminder that nature has never been big on tidy little boxes.

Bonus: if you find them all, you could win a limited-edition print created by DJCAD Illustration student Phoebe Patino Mains.
